Some of the best racers and cars from the West Coast came out to the event to strut their stuff at the car show and prove who is the fastest on the drag strip. Full Function took the opportunity to bring out two of its shops cars, a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 owned by Bruce V., and a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 owned by Patrick B.

Bruce’s Evolution 8 was another one of those stock block “monsters” to roll out of Full Function making very good power on both pump gas and VP C16. The vehicle is armed with an AMS GT35R and all supporting modifications. Sean Burgess tuned Bruce’s Evolution 8 to an easy 360awhp @ 23 PSI on Full Function’s AWD Mustang Dynamometer. With the addition of C16 race fuel the car easily made 480awhp on race gas! This was all utilizing the factory reprogrammed ECU and Mass Airflow Sensor.

Patrick’s Evolution 9 was outfitted with a Full Function built 2.0 short block and Shearer GT35R Kit. Patrick also added a few new parts before going to the track which consisted of a Quartermaster Twin Disc Clutch with a Hydraulic throw-out bearing, an AMS/Wilwood Small Front Brake Kit, and 15x7” Rota Slipstreams wrapped in 26” Hoosier QTP Drag Slicks. Pat’s car currently makes an impressive 527HP on FFTEC’s Dyno.

The excitement started at the end of test and tune (TNT) held the day before BOTI. Highlights of the TNT include Bruce V. making his personal best of time 11.333 @ 126.388 mph while racing Patrick B. For those who were there to witness the race, everyone admitted that it had to be one of the best races of the night. Bruce had a better reaction time, which helped him get off the line first, but the additional power Patrick had enabled him to reel Bruce in and take the win.

During Test and Tune on Friday, Patrick started off doing partial runs dialing in the tune. The car has no roll cage and still has its full interior with no body modifications. Once the tune was dialed in Patrick felt ready to go all out and decided to take his first pass. He was able to pull off a run of 10.730@136.697mph. Upon returning to the staging area, everybody was confident Pat would get either kicked out or receive a warning. Surprisingly the pass went under the track officials’ radar. Pat decided to attempt another pass and found himself lined up against Bruce V. Patrick easily clicked off a new California state Evolution quarter mile time and trap speed record with a remarkable 10.682@135.485mph.

The next day, Pat and Bruce brought out their vehicles to compete in the BOTI drag racing event. Both Patrick and Bruce’s cars were put in the Street Tuner Class (S/T). During qualifying sessions, Pat ran 10.809@111.656, while letting off in 4th which already put him in the #1 spot in his class. When Eliminations started, officials told Pat that he was not allowed to run any faster than 11.49 due to not having the proper safety equipment. Patrick kept that promise by stalling off the line, thus being eliminated from the competition. Luckily, they opened up a TNT lane for people to run for a while, so Pat decided to go and make one last pass. On his last TNT pass, Patrick was able to pull off a 10.561@136.845 run, shattering the record he set the previous day.

While the crew was busy celebrating Pat’s record breaking run, Bruce’s consistent driving helped him climb the ladder during the Eliminations Round. Before we knew it, Bruce was already at the finals, where he eventually took first place in the S/T Class. Bruce walked away with $1100 in prize money and contingencies and a nice big trophy!

The BOTI weekend turned out to be extremely busy and eventful. Congratulations Bruce V. for winning 1st place in the S/T Class and setting a new personal best time. Congratulations to Patrick B. for setting a new California Evolution ET and Trap Speed record. We met several great people and competitors and we look forward to the next BOTI in Fontana .

Full Function Staff
1260 Pacific Street
Union City , CA 94587
WWW.FFTEC.COM
1-510-475-5855 Phone
1-510-475-5840 Fax

Full Function releases its latest 40r kit for the Evolution Platform

Are you constantly trying to find ways to gain more power in your Evolution 8/9? We already knew that the cap on the stock 4g63 block was around 500awhp on our Mustang Dyno, so we opted to switch out the 4g63 block for a 4g64 block. With the addition of a 4g63 crank, 6mm longer Manley forged Connecting Rods and a set of JE Pistons, we came up with a de-stroked 2.1L short block that could take all the beating we could give.

Due to the size and limitations of the turbo in the HKS 3037S turbo kit William had, we decided to swap that out for a FFTec 40r Turbo Kit which consist of a Garrett GT4088r Turbo, a FFTec Tubular T4 Manifold, Twin 38mm Tial Wastegates, FFTec 3” o2 housing and a half sized Koyo Radiator. In addition to the FFTec 40r Kit and the new shortblock, William also added a FFTec Sheet Metal Intake Manifold, and a dual HKS Fuel rail set up, William’s car was able to down an amazing 606AWHP on our Mustang Dyno!.
Since her recent makeover, William’s Evo was recently featured in the March Issue of DSport Magazine -- go pick up a copy today!

LA Auto Show 2007

Finally! The Skyline in America

When we made it to the LA Auto Show, we went straight for the Skyline. In the main show room there it was, in a boxed off Nissan corner surrounded by walls of video screens on a rotating hardwood platform. Covered in a glow of spotlights, the Skyline looked just as cool in real life as it did in the pictures. Nissan really hit a home run with this one! Hopefully this helps them revive their slumping home market...

Fighter Jet or Automobile?

The most expensive and powerful car Lamborghini has ever made. That's saying a lot... The Reventon is a limited production (100 made) super car designed after a jet fighter (the F-22 Raptor) and named after a bull.

The car's design was simply perfect. It was angry... serious... passionate. Not much bigger than a standard Lamborghini Diablo of the 90s, its sharp contours literally pulled your attention back to it the second you looked away. The paint which looked lackluster in photos gleamed of a shiny pearl finish in real life. Unlike the constant chatter surrounding the GT-R display, there was a hushed awe around the Reventon. It was inspiring.

Evo goes Aggressive and STi goes Hatch

We've seen some split between the Evo/STi designs over the past few years but nothings as drastic as what's in store for 2008. The designers are Subaru ultimately decided to stick strictly to the hatch model while their rivals at Mitsubishi continued to make the Evo design more aggressive. As many of you know, the Evo has finally departed from the hailed 4G63 power plant opting with the straight-4
4B11T. Be prepared to see some exciting things for this new motor from FFTec in 2008!

We were sad to go...

The LA Auto Show represents the best of what automotive America has to offer. It has served as the North American debut stage for countless "milestone" cars over the decades and after having the opportunity to attend, we can see why. The amount of preparation put into this show is nothing short of breathtaking... and we thought SEMA was up there! The best part is that the show is open to the general public and it only costs $10. The show is a great service to the many Manufacturers around the world and their lifeline -- the customers.

To see the full gallery from the auto show, click here! However, every once in a while we'll be presented with a project that's just TOO amazing to turn down. Introducing: Joseph. Introducing: Joseph's Lexus IS. Introducing: TOM'S SUPERCHARGER KIT straight from Japan... you can't get more JDM then that. For those of you unfamiliar, TOM'S is like Gucci and there are only two of this kit currently in America. We've got one of them in our hands!

The quality and precision in which this kit was engineered is mind-blowing to say the least. The rubber hoses were thick and sturdy, the core was as light as a feather and some of the piping even had strategically placed indentations to insure perfect fit! Moreover, every single screw, bolt and gasket came in its own compartmentally allocated plastic bag and there were Japanese instruction sheets everywhere. They even included a pen to write with! I can think of a handful of domestic companies who could learn a thing or two from TOM's.

Many of our customers are tech heads to the max looking for the fastest laptop, E.T. or horsepower numbers. Some of them like their cars to look nice doing so. Others -- like Joseph -- are just straight up ballers. Check these out. The car doesn't even have license plates yet!

Sticking with the JDM theme, Joseph with be installing the TOM's supercharger kit in conjunction with HKS's F-Con Engine Management System. F-Con is arguably one of the most advanced, comprehensive management system on the market. Since we're the only HKS certified tuner for miles and miles and miles, Joseph definitely came to the right place. If you thought AEM EMS could do some mean things, wait till you see what's in store for this beast.

We'll be sure to take a few photos after the install and if Jospeh doesn't mind, we'll post his dyno sheets and a few shots of the F-Con in action. Keep posted!

SEMA Baby!

God must have been angry...

A couple of us spent the last week at SEMA and damn was it amazing! The trip definitely got off to a "rocky" start as our cars ran into the stranngesst issues on the way to Las Vegas. Long story short, here is how the commute there went:

4:00 PM - depart
4:30 PM - alternator failure 20 miles out
8:00 PM - finally find way back
8:30 PM - replace alternator
10:00 PM - depart again
5:00 AM: - sharp object in road
9:00 AM - towed to Firestone in LA for new tires
5:00 PM - Car pickup but Firestone notices wheel puncture at the last minute
5:30 PM - JB Weld to the rescue!
6:00 PM - Leave for Vegas

30 hours later: Finally arrive!!

SEMA -- leno & bumblebee??

Aside from the commute, the rest of the trip was amazing! We spent our days split between going to seminars, checking out the exhibits and nights either working or getting sh*tfaced ;). The first 3 days were spent with the serious performance stuff. It was great seeing the new lineups from the manufacturers we support as well as our friends over at HKS, GReddy and AEM. We learned a lot from the seminars too and will be implementing many of the ideas we picked up over the next few weeks.

One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the real life Bumblebee used in the movie! Too bad it couldn't actually transform... Jay Leno's custom e85 C6RS Z06 was there on display as well. Man that thing looks absolutely BEASTLY. GM must have been proud to have those two exhibits. I mean after all, aside from transformers and sick z06s, what else are they good for...

just kidding... kind of...

Forty-Twos?! You have got to be kidding me...

The last 2 days were spent hanging out over at the wheels/tires exhibits. For those of you that have never been to SEMA, the wheels side and the performance parts side are absolute polar opposites of each other. Walking into the wheels exhibit is like going into bling bling ballerdom. Asanti had their precious 42" wheel in giant display being announced "GO BIG OR GO HOME" by an equally giant staff member. The floor was filled with scores and scores of 430s, Murcielagos, Gallardos, Bentleys, Phantoms and the usual sprinkle of McClaren SLRs and Carrera GTs. As expected, these bad boys had some of the SICKEST wheels in existance.

The highlight was having the big tire manufacturers (Michelin, Continental, Yokohama etc...) bring their OEM supported cars. The spectacular lineup included the electric Tesla, the new Audi R8 and that sexy green GT3RS.

Overall, SEMA is everything it's hyped up to be.

quick tip: even if you're not associated with the industry it wouldn't be difficult at all to... "accidentally" wander into one of the exhibits if you happened to be in vegas. security? yeaahhh... not really there. and the ones that are don't really care...

you didn't hear that from us!
